Pioneers ‘N’ Petticoats was started by youth dancers in 1996. Rudy ‘Boots’ Rome had been providing square dance lessons for P.E. credit at the Canyonville Middle School. The students liked it so much that they asked whether they could have more P.E. time. Rudy discussed this with the School Principal and arranged to teach lessons on Thursday evenings using the School’s Youth Center. The students came with their parents. Soon, we had parents wanting to dance, too! The students are now grown and have moved on, but several of the parents are still dancing with Pioneers ‘N’ Petticoats.
